Trifari Sterling Vermeil Jelly Belly Frog Brooch

~ Isn't he adorable? This Trifari Jelly Belly Frog is made of sterling vermeil (sterling silver coated with gold plating), clear rhinestones, faux emerald cabochon eyes, and a pear-shaped, lucite belly.

~ The reverse is signed "Trifari" with the crown logo over the "T", and "Sterling", and "Des Pat No 135172".

~ The Trifari designer was Alfred Philippe who was famous for his many designs at Trifari.

~ Measures 2.85" x 1.7"

~ The original patent, filed in 1943, is shown above.

Research: This is a famous Trifari piece and is featured in several books, including  A. Gordon's, 20th Century Costume Jewelry, p. 119, and the Brunialtis', American Costume Jewelry, pp. 149-50
