Victorian Portrait on Porcelain, 10 K Gold Frame NWS 1-935 ~ This is a charming, hand-painted portrait of a pretty young woman wearing a cameo, suspended from a black ribbon, and matching cameo earrings. ~ She wears a lovely, low-cut blouse, with a velvet cape draped over her shoulder. ~ Notice also that the artist has added finely detailed wallpaper in the background; this is a very carefully and well-executed portrait. ~ The porcelain has been bezel-set in a gold colored frame (either brass or gold, I did not test it), with an extended outer frame of 10 KT gold (tested positive). ~ Measures 1.5" wide and 1.75" high. ~ There is a number impressed on the reverse - I think it reads "31". ~ Original pin stem still extends beyond the edge of the frame, which is correct for a Victorian brooch, with the original "C" clasp. - Featured in the book, Answers to Questions About Old Jewelry, 1840-1950, by C. J. Bell, p. 95 c. 1880 Price = |
