Famous Har Genie Brooch NWS 1-1158 ~ Rare, and highly collectible, this is a fantastic brooch by Har. Very little is known about Har, except that Har jewelry was made in New York in the 1950's. Har is famous for whimsical designs, and their jewelry is characterized by dragons, genies, oriental people and snakes! Har was only in business for a brief period, from the 1950's to the 60's, so the amount of jewelry was never plentiful. It is well made, unusual and beautiful, so people tend to hang on to it. As a result, my experience has been that very few Har pieces ever reach the market, and when they do, they're not available for long! ~ The photos make it look as though this genie has his eyes closed, but not so! He is looking down into his crystal ball, figuring out what your fortune will be! ~ His body is plated in rose gold, while his turban, vest and arm bracelets are plated in yellow gold (faux of course). ~ His turban is studded with 6 faceted, faux sapphires, while at the center, just above his forehead, is a large, faux ruby cabochon. ~ His vest is decorated along the edges with fancy "embroidery". ~ His vest is also edged with pavé-set, faceted, faux diamonds, set into rhodium plated metal, and the base on which the Genie's crystal ball is set is also studded with faux diamonds in rhodium. ~ The crystal ball is actually a hollow glass globe that contains a golden star inside it, with a faceted, faux sapphire at its center - soooo cool! ~ You can't see it in the photos, but underneath the crystal ball, his waist is tied with a wide sash. ~ The Genie measures 2 1/8" high and 1 7/8" wide. c. 1950, in excellent condition ~ To see the matching bracelet and earrings, as well as
