Mazer 1940's Sterling and "Topaz" Retro Brooch

on Hold

NWS 9-475

~ During World War II, most metals were restricted for military use only, so costume jewelry designers reverted to sterling silver for the jewels. This brooch is made of solid sterling silver, with gold plating

~ 4 large, emerald-cut, faux topaz crystals are prong-set, and have open backs, without foil (with crystals as bright as these, who needs foil!); one of the stones appears to be a replacement, and one of the prongs is missing from its setting, but the stone is perfectly secure (price reflects)

~ Typical of the "Retro" Design period of the 1940's, this brooch has a fabulous swirling ribbon of metal, with simulated diamond accents

~ Measures 1.75" high and 1.75" wide

~ Featured in the book, Signed Beauties of Costume Jewelry, Identification & Values, by Marcia Brown, p. 219, identifies this brooch as a Mazer, and shows a value of $280; this brooch is an unsigned Mazer

c. 1944, with some wear to the gold plating; the clear rhinestones are all in bright and great condition

Price =  $58.00on Hold
