Huge Sapphire & Diamond Brooch/Button Cover!

~ The shades of sapphire in this brooch just amaze me! The depth and intensity of the blue color is mesmerizing. The crystals shimmer like ice against the dark background of the gun metal settings. "Gun metal" is a descriptive term that describes a darker base metal, sort of like a very dark pewter. The contrast of this dark background, laden with dazzling gems, is utterly fantastic.

~ You can see the color of the base metal in the third photo above. You can also see the triangle cut-out on the back plate. I have never seen this before in 1950's jewelry, but here it is, a button cover! The brooch can be hooked over a small button. So, for example, if you wanted to wear it at the top of a shirt, it would look fabulous, just like Hedy Lamar does here! So cool.

~ The brooch contains one large, faceted, faux sapphire at the center. Radiating outwards from this crystals are 8 faceted, faux diamonds that have been cut into pear shapes. An outer ring of more stones forms a frame around the center: huge, emerald cut sapphires alternate with large navettes in an icy pale shade of blue. At the tip of each navette are two faux diamond chatons (rounds), sprinkled all the way around the design.

~ Note that the large round crystal at the center is a deeper darker shade of blue, so this brooch actually contains 3 different shades of blue, from deep midnight blue, to deep ocean blue, to pale shimmery blue. Heavenly!

~ Brooch also has the standard pin stem with swivel-head safety clasp.
