Trifari Sterling Vermeil Rabbit Brooch With Aquamarine Easter Egg

NWS 6-1498

~ This fabulous Trifari brooch was designed by their most famous designer, Alfred Philippe. He must have had the heart of a child, because the sheer whimsy of his jeweled creations is what drives a collector's passion to find more of them. And looking at this adorable rabbit, we can understand why.

~ During World War II, costume jewelry designers were obliged to use sterling silver for their jewelry, as all other metals had been restricted for the war effort. Therefore, this solid sterling silver brooch has been plated with a soft gold vermeil.

~ The rabbit has big, glorious ears that are edged with pavé-set, faux diamonds. Four more bezel-set, faceted, faux diamonds sparkle on the ears.

~ The body of the rabbit is also speckled with more diamonds, while his white, "cotton tail" is covered in more pavé crystals. One faux ruby cabochon marks his eye.

~ Our eye is immediately drawn to the large Easter egg that the rabbit is holding (quite proudly, I might add). It is comprised of one, large, faceted crystal in a lovely, deep aquamarine color. This stone has been prong-set into an open-backed setting for maximum light penetration and refraction. It has been faceted on both the top and the back, all cut by hand.

~ This famous Trifari Rabbit measures 2" highly and slightly over 1.5" wide.

~ The reverse is marked "Trifari", with the crown logo above the "T".  It is also marked "Pat. Pend." and "STERLING". The final patent filing is shown above.

c. 1948, in excellent condition. Gold plating shows very little wear which is extraordinary after all these years. Adorable!

Price = $445.00 b6, q-z
