Vintage Mexican Taxco Sterling Clamper Bracelet NWS 5-1437 ~ This is a vintage Mexican Sterling Clamper, made in Taxco. As collectors know, in the 1930's - 1950's, Taxco was the "Mecca" where some of the greatest silversmiths in the world gathered to ply their trade. This clamper comes from that location and is pre-Eagle mark, meaning it was made before 1948. A treasured find! ~ Simple, yet elegant, this sterling silver clamper has a spring loaded hinge at the back, which enables the bracelet to clamp onto any size wrist with a comfortable hold. ~ The inside of the bracelet is stamped in a circle Taxco, Guerrero, Made in Mexico; inside the circle are the initials EDP; outside and under the circle 925 sterling. Weight 49 grams, 1.57 troy oz. ~ Diameter measures 2.25". Width at widest point 3.5". c. 1935, in excellent vintage condition (I do not polish vintage sterling). Research: Mexican Silver, by Penny C. Morrill, p. 246. On this page, you will see the artist's initials "EDP" listed as one of the Maestros, but I have so far been unable to find his name. See also Hougart's, The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks, page 83. Price = $925.00 b 3, Mex |
