Reinad Balian Mask Brooch

~ This stunning brooch is a considerable work of art: the mask has been made from a separate piece of metal, which has then been prong-set onto the background plate

~ The hat that adorns the head is a turban-like headdress, with 4 levels reaching to its top, and it is covered with exotic engravings

~ There appear to be earrings at the ears

~ The mask has a copper colored wash over a darker base metal; the color is antiqued, intended to make the brooch look ancient

~ The background of the brooch is circular, made with dozens of "rays", and each ray contains a bezel-set, clear, faceted crystal at its end; it bears a similar coppery coating

~ The brooch measures 2.25" across and has a substantial heft to it

~ The reverse is signed "REINAD" and has the standard swivel-head safety clasp; the metal on the back has a dark coating, similar to "japanning"

c. 1940, all stones are original, and all are in perfect condition
