Art Nouveau Silver & Diamond Baguette Butterfly Belt Buckle NWS 5-1337 ~ The Art Nouveau design period was all about depicting women as goddesses, with long, flowing hair and sultry, gossamer garments that were very revealing. Themes of the natural world were celebrated in countless variations, especially moths, dragonflies and butterflies. This fabulous belt buckle is the genuine article - no reproduction here! - depicting a moth or butterfly that is absolutely covered in faceted, faux diamond baguettes. You could search hither and yon and never find an Art Nouveau buckle like this. ~ The camera gave me a bit of trouble with the indoor lighting. The metal is a solid silver color, with no hint of red or yellow, yet the camera picked up reflections from the room. This buckle is a dark silver color, quite substantial and somewhat heavy, without being uncomfortable to wear. The silver has a mottled, decorated background, and with my jeweler's loupe I can see traces of black enamel that is over 100 years old! ~ On the surface of the buckle are 11 faceted, faux diamond baguettes that have been set at various angles. They sparkle with the fire of the most brilliant diamonds, very dramatic against the dark background. ~ This buckle measures just slightly under 3" wide, and just slightly under 2.5" high c. 1900, in excellent condition, a unique and very special addition the your wardrobe (if you like standing out from the crowd and wearing things that are unusual & beautiful, this one's for you)! Price = $85.00 |
