Boucher Patriotic American Eagle Diamond & Enamel Brooch

Magnificent!

NWS 3-1443

~ Whatever your political opinion may be, one thing is for certain: you love this country! And wearing this American Eagle Brooch certainly affirms that. But,... it's not just a way of showing your patriotism,... it's also a way to add a touch of drama and sparkle to your wardrobe. This is a majestic brooch, perfect for any occasion. It was made around 1940, when wearing the red, white and blue was "in", to show support for our troops.

~ The base metal is the old fashioned pot metal that we all cherish. These oldies are getting harder to find in such good condition. The brooch is plated with chromium, a silver metal that faded from use once the shinier, brighter rhodium came into common use.

~ The eagle has been hand painted with baked enamel in red, white and navy blue. Each and every feather is depicted, as are the bird's claws.  Marcel Boucher was famous for inventing metalic enamels. These unique enamels have been applied to this brooch, lending it a luscious sheen, a signature style marker for Boucher. No other desinger used these metalic enamels in 1940.

~ Along the front of his wings, or "wing bars", are pave-set, faceted, faux diamonds. They also cover his neck and fanned tail.

~ The eagle's head is of white enamel, and he has a black enamel beak (enamel slightly worn at the tip).  His eye is shown with one tiny silver bead.

~ A patriotic poster by Thomas Woodburn, 1940. It says at the top, "The United States Army", and at the bottom, "Then... Now... And Forever!" The soldiers are wearing American uniforms that span the centuries, with the then modern soldier shown at left, all the way to the patriot's uniform from the American Revolution. Image is from A Tribute To America, Costume Jewelry from 1935-1950, by Brunialti & Brunialti, p. 65. PatrioticEagleBrooch4.jpg (9670 bytes)

~  This vintage brooch measures just a tad under 3" wide and 3" high. It is also 3 dimensional with the front wing (on the right) being above the rear wing (left). This eagle has a powerful presence, as it should.

~ Marked with the old phrygian cap logo on the inside of the bird's head. Because of the concave surface, the mark is difficult to see.

c. 1940, in excellent condition, 3 tiny, missing rhinestones have been replaced by me.
