1930's Dangling Glass Leaves and Beads Charm Necklace NWS 3-340 ~ There must be at least a hundred red, green and blue glass beads and carved glass leaves dangling from this silver-tone necklace! Each leaf is shaped in a gently curling form that makes them look real, and they even have the veins carved into them. ~ These leaves are suspended from a silvertone snake chain, or, as they called it in the 1930's, "gas pipe". This silvertone snake chain is substantial, measuring 3/8th" thick, and is, of course, rounded. ~ The design starts with glass beads in colorful clusters, which have been looped by hand into the snake chain. Then short strands of dangling, glass leaves get progressively longer, with the longest strands at the center. The longest of these "leaf chains" is 4.5" long. ~ Colors include frosted and clear white glass, and multiple shades of reds, blues, greens, with some and glass pearls. ~ This fabulous necklace measures 16.25" long. c. 1930, in excellent condition, a unique, one-of-a-kind creation, right out of the American Depression era, when women's spirits would not be crushed. Our grand and great grandmothers wore less expensive, but hand-made jewelry that today is valuable, not only for the extraordinary workmanship common in those days, but for its increasing rarity. Much of the American costume jewelry from this early era has disappeared. Price = $395.00 Sale Price = $285.00 |
