Spectacular Victorian Turquoise Faceted Glass Necklace, Brooch and Bracelet Set NWS 15-1292
~ The necklace has 50 small, round, turquoise beads made of glass, which go the length of the necklace. The beads were individually joined, one to the next, by hand with tiny brass loops. The ends terminate in loops and needs either a hook or a spring ring clasp. This can easily be done, probably for less than a dollar. The centerpiece is a large faceted glass stone, set with brass claw-like prongs. The back of the setting is open. Dozens of small turquoise beads surround the center, and each of these has been hand cut and prong-set. The entire centerpiece is formed as a pendant and dangles from the center with a matching brass loop. ~ The brooch has fantastic, faceted, pear-shaped stones at the center, set in opposing directions, with a big, fat, faceted glass baguette in between. So luscious! All the way around the outer edge of the brooch are more faceted, turquoise glass chatons (rounds), and each stone has again been hand cut and set by hand into brass. The brooch retains its original pin stem and "C" clasp, and works perfectly. ~ The bracelet is made of gilded metal. Seven stones, in graduated sizes, are prong-set in between the 2 bands that form the front of the bracelet. The back half of the bracelet is a flat, solid brass band, with no stones. It is a bangle, and fits over most wrists. The stones at the front half of the bangle are not only graduated in size, with the largest at the center, but they alternate between round and oval, and all are faceted and prong-set. In the center is a floral motif, which could be a "forget-me-not", a favorite Victorian message with sentimental significance. Further, for most of the 19th century, the combination of gold and turquoise in Victorian jewelry was popular. ~ The necklace measures 15.5" long and the pendant measures 1.75" long. ~ The inside circumference of the bracelet is approximately 7.5"; the center of the bracelet, the widest part, measures .75" wide. ~ The brooch measures 1.75" wide and just under 1" high c. 1885, in truly remarkable, excellent condition, no chips, no cracks, no repairs, no replacements! Price = $263.00 |
