Marbled Green Glass & Enamel Necklace c. 1922

NWS 15-1363

~ This fabulous necklace is a transitional piece. It show three different design influences of the turn of the century. Made in approximately 1922, you can see the remaining influence of the Art Nouveau period, with the enameled, leafy cartouches. The marbleized green glass squares bow to the coming Art Deco period, and their soft-sided, pyramid shapes echo the craze over Egyptian motifs.
In November of 1922, Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered by the British Egyptologist, Howard Carter. The world's fascination with everything Egyptian can be seen in early 20th century American jewelry, and this necklace is a perfect, if subtle, example.

~ This necklace is comprised of 18 links, alternating between glass squares and triangular, enameled cartouches. The green glass cabochons are marbled with streaks and flecks of lighter green glass. These square cabochons are shaped like rounded pyramids, and have been bezel set into brass.

~ The triangular cartouches are also made of brass. They have cut-out segments, and are enameled green and black.

~ The necklace terminates in a spring ring that may be a replacement.

~ Necklace measures 16".5 long and .5" wide.

c. 1922, in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or repairs.

Price = $255.00 Art D, Art N, Nex 4
