Victorian Photo Portrait Brooch

NWS 14-922

~ This is a lovely ornate Victorian brooch which measures 1.25" high and  1.75" wide

~ The brooch has a beautiful, ornate goldtone ribbon-like edging which forms a very dramatic frame around her face

~ A black enamel forms the background for the gilt words which read  "IN MEMORY OF J A"

~ The woman wears a cross suspended from a ribbon (Victorians called this a "dog collar"), which ties in back of her neck

~ Her dress is black,  with a low cut neck, edged in white lace

~ Her hair is either cut short or is up in a bun - hard to tell - and she looks to be about 17 - 19 years old, and she's very pretty

~ Her picture sits beneath a glass lense which is mounted in a gilt,  rope-twisted bezel setting

~ On the back of the brooch is a traditional c-clasp hinged pin fitting, with the whole mount made possibly of pinchbeck; the pin stem extends beyond the edge of the brooch which was right for that era

c. 1860-1870, in excellent condition with the glass cover and enamel intact; the photo is in excellent condition

Price = $210.00
