| Famous Trifari Sterling Crown Brooch & Earrings Set, Alfred
Philippe
NWS 14-927 ~ This famous Trifari set, called "Coronation Gems", was made in 1944 in commemoration of Queen Elizabeth's ascension to the British thrown ~ Alfred Philippe was one of Trifari's most famous designers and created many of the jewels that Trifari is now most famous for! ~ Made with vermeil (gold plated sterling silver), the finest Austrian crystals adorn the crown with faux sapphires, diamonds, rubies and emeralds and one lovely, faceted faux aquamarine at center stage ~ Pin measures just over 1.75" wide and 1.75" high ~ The matching earrings are clips and measure 7/8" high; I may have photographed them with the earrings in the wrong position; they should probably be reversed ~ All 3 pieces are marked on the back "Trifari", with the crown logo above the "T", and additionally on the brooch "sterling" and "des. pat. 137542" ~ The gold plating is somewhat worn on the brooch and mostly worn on the earrings, but the stones have so much fire power, no one notices! It's truly a fabulous set, all stones original and in perfect condition ~ Featured in the book, American Costume Jewelry, by Brunialti & Brunialti, P. 92 and Collectible Costume Jewelry, by Cheri Simonds, p. 157 c. 1944 Price = $235.00 Who was Trifari? |
