Famous Corocraft Sterling Genie Brooch NWS 14-1191 ~ Another famous brooch from Corocraft! A genie, or fortuneteller, sits gazing into his crystal ball, and reads the details of your future from within its magical depths (the so called "crystal" ball is actually Lucite, which is good because otherwise the brooch would be heavier). ~ This fabulous genie has been plated with a soft, rose gold vermeil; during World War II, costume jewelry designers were obliged to use sterling silver for their jewelry, as all other metals had been restricted for use in the war effort ~ He sits cross legged, with his arms folded above his "crystal" ball, as if to suggest that the Genie is in a deep trance ~ The cuffs of his flared sleeves are edged with faceted, faux diamonds, which are all a-glow with the light that emanates from the crystal ball ~ The turban on his head is covered with faceted, pavé-set, faux diamonds, all set in rhodium plated metal, at the top of which is one, faux ruby cabochon, and a large tear drop, faceted, faux sapphire - so adorable! ~ His eyes, eyebrows and lips are depicted with black enamel, and his shirt has 2, faux ruby cabochon buttons ~ This famous genie measures 2 1/8" high and 1 3/8" wide ~ On the reverse, a rectangular plaque bears the maker's name "CoroCraft", with the Pegasus logo, and "STERLING" c. 1945, in excellent condition Reference: Featured in the book, American Costume Jewelry, by Brunialti & Brunialti, p. 175- 176 Price = $610.00 Who was Coro? |
