Enamel & Diamond Argyle Collar, Bracelet & Earrings Set, Marcel Boucher Masterpiece. NWS 14-1412
~ This fantastic Marcel Boucher set is a work of art. It is strikingly different. Nothing I've ever had for sale has ever hurt so much to part with as this set. ~ The set is made of heavily plated, goldtone metal. It has a diamond pattern that reminds me of argyle. Each little diamond-shaped section is enameled in red, green or blue. The enamel is a thin wash, kind of like a water color painting. And the metal is striated, like gross-grained ribbon. In one row, the grain runs from side to side. In the next row, the grain runs from top to bottom. It's an unusual and spectacular effect. ~ Expertly made, the necklace and bracelet are made of individual metal plates that are linked together from behind, hidden underneath the design. ~ At the tip of each point in the necklace is a faceted, faux diamond chaton. And, as you can see, some of the segments are filled with pavé-set, faux diamonds, for dazzling splashes of brilliance. In the bracelet, a similar row of clear pavé-set crystals runs up the center of the design. ~ The bracelet measures 7.5" long and just under 1" wide. It terminates in a shovel clasp that is disguised into the design. It also has a safety chain, a sign of quality. ~ The necklace has a built in curve that enables it to sit perfectly at a woman's collar bone. It measures approximately 14" long, and has a 1.25" extender. Because of the curve, it's very hard to measure, but I'd say this would be perfect for a small to medium neck. The necklace terminates in a folding clasp. The extender enables you to adjust the length to accommodate differing necklines in your wardrobe. ~ The earrings measure 7/8" across and are clips. ~ There are 576 tiny, faceted rhinestones in this set, all of which were set by hand. The quality, the heft, the workmanship all attest to the supreme creation of a master, at his very best. Marcel Boucher. What more can I say! c. 1957, in superb condition, with 2 tiny stones in the bracelet replaced by me. When I inspected the stones with a jeweler's loupe, I saw that a few of them have mellowed a bit, but believe me, it is not noticeable. This set is as close to perfect as vintage jewels can get. Stupendous!! Price = $1,565.00 a-c 2, sets 2, masters Who was Boucher? |
