Ribbon-Tied Bouquet of Topaz & Amethysts Brooch

NWS 13-161

- If you want to see an example of what can be considered the finest that the American costume jewelry manufacturers have ever created, you're looking at one. This brooch involves an enormous amount of handwork, with layered and riveted construction seen from the reverse

- Each of the faux topaz and faux amethyst, hand-cut stones has been gently prong-set in goldtone metal;  these stones have open-back settings, with no foil; the old masters knew that when you're using the finest quality Austrian crystals available, you don't need to foil their backs, they have enough fire power without any artificial enhancements

- Jewelry historians & researchers say that the more different size stones in a piece, the more expensive it was to create; it's hard to tell from the photo, but the stones you see are not round, they are oval;  and there are 8 differing sizes of oval stones in this piece and 5 different sizes of simulated diamonds

- This was a popular theme in the 1940's, what was called the "Retro" period.  This brooch features a small bouquet of flowers, often with leaves, tied into a small poesy with a ribbon around the stems

- The base metal is silvertone, covered with gold plating; this piece has a good heft to it, you can see and feel the quality right off the bat!

- Measures 3.25" high and 2.5" wide

c. 1940, in superb condition with slight wear of the gold plating on the edges; a few of the smaller "diamonds" have mellowed a bit, to be expected with older, vintage pieces

Price = $195.00
