Trifari Union Jack Brooch by Alfred Philippe

NWS 12-1287

~ This famous Trifari brooch was designed by Alfred Philippe, Trifari's most talented and beloved designer. It was part of their patriotic series of jewelry which became very popular just before and during World War II. The British flag, or "Union Jack", was a symbol of American solidarity with, and sympathy for, Great Britain. It dates to about 1939 -1941. Beginning in 1942, metals were restricted for War use in America, so costume jewelry makers used sterling silver during, and directly after, the War. This makes it easy for vintage costume jewelry collectors to date certain designs.

~ The brooch is made of metal that has been thickly plated with rhodium. The flag itself is enameled in navy blue and red. The white stripes are covered with pavé-set, faceted, faux diamonds

~ The flag pole and halyards are enameled brown with gold enamel details; the halyard is hatched with gold enamel to make it look like rope.

~ As though waving in the breeze, the metal undulates in a ribbon effect, giving the brooch a wonderful, 3-dimensional quality

~ The reverse is signed "Trifari" with the crown logo over the "T"

~ This adorable brooch measures 1 5/8" high and 1.75" wide

c. 1939, in excellent vintage condition, the enamel is almost in mint condition and the stones are all bright and original.

Price = $295.00
