Christian Dior Rutilated Emerald & Diamond Necklace

~ Glamorous, elegant, and classic, Christian Dior understands women. His designs are haute couture. Every woman around the world understands that the name Dior means high fashion and top quality. This regal necklace is a perfect example.

~  The faux emeralds in this necklace are rutilated stones that are highly unusual.  Each green crystal is marbled with thin whisps and swirls of a paler green glass deep within the stone, making them look like gemstones with natural inclusions.

~ All of the stones in this necklace have been faceted by hand (as opposed to the less expensive molded glass stones), another mark of quality. And all the stones are prong-set, not glued in, like some of the less well made costume jewelry we see being made today.

~ The base metal has been thickly plated with rhodium, providing a brilliant background for the dozens of faceted, faux, diamond chatons (rounds).

~ The faux emeralds are made in 3 graduated shades of green. The large chatons that alternate along the neck chain are slightly darker than the emerald navettes. And the central pendant, with the two largest emeralds, are the darkest and most intense color of all. Truly sectacular!

~ It's interesting to note that every single green crystal in this necklace has an open-back setting. That means that light passes through the stones creating a radiance that is just unbelievable.

~ The necklace measures 16.75" long and the neck chain measures .5" widest. It terminates with a shovel clasp. The pendant measures approx. 2" long and .75" wide.

~ Signed and dated on the reverse of the pendant "1970 Chr.Dior Germany", which indicates that  it was made for Dior by Henkle & Grosse in Germany, a famous firm that often executed Dior's jewelry designs.
