Art Deco Bakelite "Machine Age" Necklace NWS 12-1452
~ This Art Deco necklace is comprised of Bakelite with decorative, metal bands, and beads that are made of silver and brass tone metals. The design is reminiscent of the "Machine Age", when automive designs dominated automobiles, trains, architecture, and even woman's fashions. This necklace is a quintessential progeny of the Art Deco era. ~ The necklace measures 13.5" long; almost choker length, it rests at the base of a woman's throat. If you'd like it longer, you can easily add loops to the end to extend the length. ~ The black bakelite centerpiece curves into a deep "U" shape that is approximately 3.5" from top of "arms" to the bottom of the "U"; it measures 5" wide. ~ The centerpiece of black bakelite has 15 metal half-tubes in silver and brass tones, and these hammered, tubular metal strips have been set deeply into the bakelite. You can see this from the reverse. ~ The necklace retains its hook and loop clasp, which may or may not be original to the necklace. Also, it may have been restring over the years, I don't know, but it's in awfully good condition! c. 1935, in excellent condition, with a delightful bit of patina on some of the metal. Price = $147.00 n 1, art d |
