Trifari Sterling Vermeil Fur Clip, White King Chess Piece, by Alfred Philippe NWS 11-1400
~ The White King Chess Piece Fur Clip is made of solid sterling silver, with cream enamel, rhinestones and a soft gold vermeil plating. During World War II, costume jewelry designers were obliged to use sterling silver for their jewelry, as all other metals had been restricted for the war effort. ~ The White King has a line of faceted, faux emeralds that have been pavé-set around the pedestal base (1 faux emerald is a replacement), and at the top of the pedestal is a rim of black enamel. ~ The White King has a row of faceted, faux rubies around the pedestal base, and his black enameled and vermeil crown is rimmed with a dozen faux diamonds, and is topped with 5 glass ruby stones (4 are cabochons and 1 is a faceted replacement). ~ His eyes, eyebrows, nose, mustache and mouth and beard are depicted in vermeil, as is his hair. Just under his chin is a clear, faceted crystal. ~ This adorable fur clip measures 1 5/8" high and 7/8" widest. The clip has retained its "snap", though there is some play from side to side, but it holds just great!
