Trifari Sterling Vermeil Fur Clip, Black King Chess Piece, by Alfred Philippe NWS 11-1139
~ The Black King Chess Piece Fur Clip is made of solid sterling silver, with black enamel, rhinestones and a soft gold vermeil plating. During World War II, costume jewelry designers were obliged to use sterling silver for their jewelry, as all other metals had been restricted for the war effort. ~ The Black King has a line of faceted, faux rubies that have been pavé-set around the pedestal base, and at the top of the pedestal is a rim of creamy white enamel. ~ The Black King has a row of faceted, faux rubies around the pedestal base, and his white enameled and vermeil crown is rimmed with a dozen faux diamonds, and is topped with 5 glass turquoise beads. ~ The Black King's eyes, eyebrows, nose, mustache and mouth are depicted in vermeil, as is his hair. ~ This adorable fur clip measures 1 5/8" high and 7/8" widest. The clip has retained its "snap", though there is some play from side to side, but it holds just great! ~ Signed TRIFARI with the crown logo above the "T" and also marked "STERLING" and "Des.Pat. No. 140844".
