Simulated Diamond Bird With Ribbon Brooch NWS 10 -1119 ~ When you hold one of these vintage beauties in your hand, you can't help but marvel at the construction. Not only did they use the finest crystals available, but the old jewelry makers used architecture. By this, I mean that a pin could be made of 3 or more pieces that would then be riveted together. That's how this brooch was made: flip it over, and you can see from the back that the brid's body, wings and accompanying ribbons are separate from the tail feather, rear wing and lower ribbons. All of this was done by hand, not machine. They just don't make `em like these old ones any more, it would be too labor intensive ~ This brooch is thickly coated with goldtone plating, but where the faux diamonds are, the background metal has been plated with rhodium, the way a jeweler would use platinum behind real diamonds ~ The brooch is covered from top to bottom with hundreds of faceted, clear, pavé-set crystals ~ True to the Retro Design era, ribbons have been incorporated into the design, and were hand painted with pale pink, blue, green and lavendar enamels ~ One faceted, faux ruby forms her eye, while her beak is gold ~ Measures 3.5" high and 1.75" wide Research: Featured in the book, Vintage Jewelry, A Price & Identification Guide, 1920-1940, by Leigh Leshner, p. 120 c. 1940, all stones are present and in good condition, and the enamel is almost in mint condition! Price = $135.00 |
