Goldtone, Red, White & Blue Maltese Pendant NWS 10-670S ~ This is a spectacular Maltese Cross, and there's a lot going on here, so read on! ~ This Maltese Cross has been constructed in 4 layers: 1) At the very top of the Maltese Cross is a Coat of Arms, in the form of a shield, with red, white and blue enamel, depicting crowns and swords and other royal symbols of heraldry 2) Beneath the shield is the next layer: an 8 pointed, goldtone star, the arms of which are made of rippling, goldtone metal 3) The third layer is made up of 4, red enamel arms, like a cross, which have golden borders; each of these arms is comprised of 5 enameled spokes of differing lengths, for a total of 20 red enameled spokes! 4) Finally, the fourth layer, or bottom, is comprised of 33 goldtone arms that radiate out from the center, all of which are open; what looks like black enamel in the photo is actually open space, showing the black background behind the golden arms ~ Look at the bail at the top of this piece: it's a goldtone crown with remarkable engraved details, hidden behind which is a loop for use as a pendant ~ Measures 2.25" wide and 2.75" high c. 1950, extremely well designed and well executed, in perfect condition Price = |
