De Nicola Aries Ram's Head Brooch

~ Founded by Jerry De Nicola in 1957, De Nicola produced beautifully crafted, fine quality costume jewelry during the late 1950's and early 1960's. The company soon became part of the Capri Jewelry Company before ceasing operations altogether in 1973. De Nicola jewelry was never plentiful, and, because of its superior quality, workmanship and designs, it is now highly collectible. Indeed, it's rare to find these pieces on the market at all nowadays.

~ De Nicola had a series of astrological jewelry and had created a brooch for each of the 12 zodiac signs. This ram's head is the brooch for Aries, and it is exquisite! The base metal is thickly plated with gold, while the "fur" on his rippled neck is a thin wash of burnt orange enamel.

~ His horns are enameled in a deep, aqua green and are additionally decorated with thin bands of pavé-set, faceted, faux diamonds. These stones have been set into thickly plated rhodium metal which really makes their brilliance jump out! The undersides of the horns are heavily plated gold which is revealed as they curl up next to the ram's golden ears

~ At the ram's chest is a large "Y" shaped band of more pavé-set, faceted, faux diamonds, with a single 6-stoned star aside it, as though just plucked from a nearby galaxy.

~ The ram's eyes are also faceted, faux diamonds

~ The ram's face is made of carved, faux jade, and details of his mouth and nose are perfect!

~ The brooch measures 2 3/8" high and 1.5" wide
